vacation-map3.jpg

Getting ready to leave for my vacation Sunday morning. I’m a little worried about the Hurricane Dean and what affect it will have on our Florida vacation.

I’m off to Pulaski, Tennessee to pick up pa and mamal then we’re heading to Gulf Shores, Ala. and Panama City Beach, Fla. Monday, for a week of holiday before heading up Niagara Falls, Canada, the following week.

Sunday, August 19th Update

What a day. I’m exhausted because I stayed up until 2:30am Saturday packing for my trip. I left Austin at 10am and drove to Dallas where I picked up I-20 and drove through Shreveport, La., all the way to Jackson, Miss.

I just got through eating a late dinner at the Waffle House. I’m bedding down for the night at the Marriott Fairfield Inn, right outside of Jackson, in Pearl, Miss.

Monday, August 20th

I’m planning on leaving at 7am, through Meridian, Miss., to Birmingham, Ala. where I’ll hop on I-65 up to Tennessee.

Picked up the folks, we’re now in Panama City Beach.  Out of the last 48 hours, I’ve driven 22 of them. Thanks to the Lord, Jesus for delivering us safely. Amen.

I was looking at some photos of the flagship Apple Store on 5th Ave., in New York City, so I thought I would post some. The store is downstairs below the glass building.

Is this cool or what??? I wish they would put one in Austin too.

Calgary, Canada Visit

Howdy from Calgary!

I’m having a nice visit in Calgary. They’re having Stamped this week. Everybody’s totally in to it, all wearing western garb. They ask me if I’m going to Stamped and I say “I’m from Texas where we have Stamped everyday not just once a year.”

Calgary Skyline

I’ve been here for one week. Next week I’m going up to Edmonton so I’m excited about. I’m starting to get extremely homesick for my beloved Austin, TX.

Welcome to Calgary

Bienvenue, what’s that French or Spanish???

Tim Hortons Coffee

Some say Tim Hortons puts cocaine in their coffee it’s so good. It’s totally the opposite of Starbucks’ radiator and pipe cleaner coffee; it’s smooth, taste like a latte. I don’t know what they put in it all I know is that it’s good!

Seems like there’s a Tim Hortons on every corner in Calgary.

King Keurig; Tassimo the Terrible

•July 5, 2007 • 1 Comment

You know I love my Keurig. I’ve got one at the apartment and one at the office. The only thing missing is my love of sipping on espresso’s, cappuccinos and lattes. Anyway, I decided to buy a unit that could make espressos and cappuccinos. My research lead me to the Tassimo made by Braun. I bought this from my favorite store that regularly sends out 20 percent off coupons, Bed Bath & Beyond. It’s was $169, less the 20 percent off BB&B coupon.

Keurig & Tassimo Coffee Makers

When putting together the Tassimo, I feared problems to come with the lack of quality of the unit, but I was very happy with the quality of the Gevalia Cappuccinos.

Tassimo Expresso T-Disk

You put a T-Disk in the unit and a laser reads the bar code which tells it how to make your drink.

Tassimo Messy T-Disks

Unfortunately, the Tassimo is very messy and requires regular cleaning after using the milk froth T-Disks.

Aaron waiting for Tassimo to heat up

On the second day of use my roommate Aaron and I had trouble with the cup stand filling up with water and the unit going in to major heating problems, taking up to 20 minutes to heat the water. Photo – Aaron waits for the unit to heat up.

Tassimo with Cappuccino in Better Days

Unfortunately, although this made a pretty nice Starbucks quality cappucino and expresso, the quality and engineering are poor to say the least. I took my back to Bed Bath & Beyond for a full refund.

Now I’m going to purchase a regular old-fashion expresso machine. They range from $50 to $800 at BB&B. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

EVH Frankenstein Guitar & 5150 III Head & Cab

•June 20, 2007 • 19 Comments

I stopped by the Austin Guitar Center today and low and behold, they have an EVH Frankenstein Replica for only $25,000, yeah that’s right $25 grand. This is one of 300 limited production. I asked if I could play it, but the guy said only if you’re serious about buying it so I didn’t get to try it. I asked if I could take a photo and he said “no.”

Although I love EVH’s guitars, I think you’d have to be an idiot to pay $25K for one of these when you can build one for under $1,000.
